Yerba mate is a plant grown predominantly in Argentina, the world's leading producer of this unique beverage. South America is the only region where yerba mate is cultivated, and Argentina stands as the largest consumer, producer, and exporter, accounting for 60% of the global market. The yerba mate produced in Argentina has been awarded the coveted certificate of denomination of origin, which not only provides a legal framework but also represents the intrinsic link between the product's quality and the geographical location where it is grown.

Mate, an infusion made from yerba mate, has a long-standing tradition in several South American countries, including Argentina, Paraguay, Uruguay, and Brazil. The consumption of mate can be traced back to the Guarani natives, the indigenous people who inhabited parts of South America. The Guarani originally chewed the mate leaves directly or prepared infusions in gourds filled with water. Yerba mate was valued not only for its energizing properties but also for its therapeutic benefits.

Today, Taragüi is the leading brand of yerba mate in Argentina, producing more than 56,000 tons per year. Since its establishment in 1940, Taragüi has been cultivated, harvested, and prepared by experts. The yerba mate is produced at Establecimiento Las Marías, a sprawling 30,000-hectare estate in the Argentine province of Corrientes. The family-owned business Las Marías has been ensuring the excellent quality of their yerba mate since 1924, overseeing every stage of production, from cultivation to sale.

Taragüi yerba mate has become synonymous with quality, with the brand carrying on the innovative spirit and nearly a century of experience in the market from its base in the province of Corrientes, Argentina.

To prepare a delightful mate, follow these five simple steps:

  1. Fill 3/4 of the container with yerba mate.
  2. Shake the container to ensure the proper distribution of the leaf, stick, and leaf powder components.
  3. Tilt the yerba mate at a 45-degree angle and add a small amount of warm water at the bottom.
  4. Place the straw (called a bombilla) directly against the inside wall of the container.
  5. Slowly pour in hot water (at 75°C/167°F) and enjoy your Taragüi mate.

Yerba mate is widely regarded as one of nature's best sources of energy, helping to combat fatigue and balance the body's functions. Rich in antioxidants and minerals, it boosts the immune system and provides a natural source of nutrition, health, and vitality. Additionally, yerba mate has the ability to control appetite and stimulate both physical and mental activity. Compared to green tea, it contains more polyphenols, and it has less caffeine than tea or coffee.
